Bruichladdich "Black Isle Regional Trial" 2014 7 years 61.5% (first fill bourbon, Feis Ile 2021 masterclass sample 5)

Fifth of the 2021 Feis Ile masterclass drams from Bruichladdich. Barley grown on the Black Isle near Inverness, part of the “Regional Trials” experiments. It’s all about terroir for this one (well, perhaps moreso than the others).

Colour Straw.

Nose Vanilla, bananas. Green and floral. Crispy pancakes. Lemon curd on toast. Orange peel. Orange and almond cake. Orange sherbet. Orange bomb. With water, melons.

Palate Milky texture. Aperitif-like bitterness and brightness: lemons. Floral. Orange peels and honey. Cloves. Candied citrus and ginger. With water, cucumber, perhaps an umami note.

Finish Textured milk, coffee, cacao. Almonds and hazelnuts. Honey and flowers. A little grassy. Caramel, peanut brittle. Long and warming. With water, thicker sweetness, some astringency.

Comments My favourite of the night. I’m a fan of the aperitif qualities. 89/100.
