Bruichladdich "Bere Barley" 2009 12 years 59.8% (first fill bourbon, Feis Ile 2021 masterclass sample 3)
Third of the 2021 Feis Ile masterclass drams from Bruichladdich. Not the oldest harvest of Bere, but the oldest in the warehouses. Grown on Orkney.
Colour Yellow gold.
Nose Tropical fruit: ripe mangoes, pawpaw, perhaps lychee. Spiced honey. Floral. Granola. Vanilla and cinnamon custard, boozy. Banana lollies and milk bottles. Some acidity here, oat biscuits, and cookie dough.
Palate Huge ripe tropical fruits, and a blast of acidity. White wine, perhaps? Something a bit yeasty, funky with this one. Creamy and silky texture. Sweet honey. Candied fruits, glace cherries, ginger candies.
Finish Honey and grain sweetness. Sweet flowers. Apple juice, mulled wine, perhaps some blueberry yoghurt. Lactic, creamy. Oak spices, cinnamon, cayenne. Long and hot. Floral, perhaps some astringency. Strawberry ice cream lingers.
Comments The nose almost has texture. Delicious. 88/100.
