Port Charlotte (Bruichladdich) 2011 The Character of Islay Whisky Company 9 years 50% (probably exbourbon)

Absolutely shocking price, and for something not even cask strength. Islay is getting ridiculous.

Colour Straw, light gold.

Nose Fresh melon, honeydew, watermelon… reminiscent of a Loch Lomond, almost. Fresh, grassy, a little green. Vegetal, earthy peat. Caramel. With water, rosemary, more alcoholic.

Palate Sharp. Caramel and honey. Malt. Vegetal, dirty, earthy peat. Smoke. Melons and strawberries, sweet fruits. Apple Danish. Soot and ash. Oily mouthfeel. With water, icing sugar. Lemons and citrus oils. Herbal.

Finish Ash, soot. Herbal peat, a little astringent. Smoke. Umami: mushrooms. A bit of sweetness. Long, warming. With water maltier, peatier, ashier. A little meaty.

Comments Clean. Pleasant. We shan’t talk about the price, likely impolite words. 87/100.
